My gym acts as an island of health amongst a sea of chronic disease. The Central Valley in California has some of the highest rates of chronic disease in the country and much of this is due to the social environment we live in. My gym gives people in my community a safe haven from the constant pressure to participate in social activities revolving around eating, drinking, and a multitude of other unhealthy habits.
