ABOUT THE BROKEN SCIENCE INITIATIVE

LET’S START WITH THE TRUTH

The BSI is calling attention to the current state of modern science. It’s broken.

It’s void of validation. Its deductivist approach stimulates results that cannot be replicated and its scientists are stuck in a publish or perish purgatory, finding “significance” at all costs.

Through education, The Broken Science Initiative will show any person interested that it’s time for a new pantheon and a renaissance that requires predictive power in science.

This will only happen with a community driven approach. At BSI we offer community-based cohorts for learning.

The Medical Society is designed specifically for healthcare providers eager for a rigorous approach to better understanding medical research, clinical outcomes and a network of like-minded professionals. Through The Journal Club society members can join in the analysis of existing literature. The Medical Society library offers resources on how to read research, how to understand statistical testing used in results and articles by and for our members. The Medical Society also features its members with high profile personalized pages that showcase our members work and help patients find them. On the backend, The Medical Society members have the ability to follow each other, create discussion boards on our forums and easily share research of interest.

MetFix is the Evolution of the Revolution. We’re going deeper. We’re taking what we built with CrossFit and we’re sharpening it into a tool that can cut through the epidemic of chronic disease that’s killing millions and bankrupting nations. We’re talking about a reconstruction of the fitness industry that doesn’t just prepare people for the unknown and the unknowable, but actively fights and reverses the world’s leading causes of death—diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and more.

The Education Society will focus on educating our children and those curious about logic, probability theory, grammar and science. The Education Society is expected to launch in the winter of 2024.

Modern science is source and repository of man’s objective knowledge. Scientific knowledge is siloed in models. A model maps a fact to a future unrealized fact as a prediction. A fact is a measurement. A measurement is an observation tied to a scale with an expressed error. An observation is a registration of the real world on our senses or sensing equipment.

A model’s validation derives entirely from its predictive power. There are four grades of model ranked by predictive strength and they are conjecture, hypothesis, theory, and law.

Predictive power is evidence of and reason for sciences’ objectivity, the sole source of science’s reliability and the demarcation between science and pseudoscience. Predictive power as determinant of a scientific model’s validity provides the basis for any rational trust of science.

Models are predictions mapping a fact to an unrealized fact where the current fact constitute the premises and the unrealized fact the conclusion of an inductive argument. Induction derives conclusions from premises with probability and not certainty. All scientific knowledge is therefore the fruit of induction validated by predictive power which is a measure of probability.

JOIN US

SOCIETIES

Each of our private societies hone into the specific ways in which the breaking of science has affected their respective area. Our Medical Society will be live in June, and be on the lookout for the launch of more societies later this year.

The Medical Society

Dedicated to addressing the systemic issues plaguing modern medicine, such as failing research validation and dwindling doctor morale.

Educational Society

Focused on providing parents and charter schools with a curriculum that allows for greater critical thinking. This work will include an introduction to probability theory, the philosophy of science, diagramming sentences, and lots of logic.

MetFix

Addresses the needs of the individual as they work to increase their health through lifestyle interventions. The Personal Health Society will provide anyone with the will to greatly enhance their health and performance in a community of like-minded people.

ETJaynes

“If fallacious reasoning always led to absurd conclusions, it would be found out at once and corrected. But once an easy, shortcut mode of reasoning has led to a few correct results, almost everybody accepts it; those who try to warn against it are not listened to.”

ET Jaynes, Probability Theory: The Logic of Science

“What the use of P [the significance level] implies, therefore, is that a hypothesis that may be true may be rejected because it has not predicted observable results that have not occurred.”

Harold Jeffreys, Mathematics and Statistics: Theory of Probability

“Perhaps the most important function of the demarcation between science and nonscience is to refuse political and religious authorities the right to pass binding judgments on the truth of certain statements of fact.”

Herbert Keuth, The Philosophy of Karl Popper

“Science relies on its models to predict novel facts, assuming the cause & effect principle as an axiom”

Jeff Glassman

“Peer review is faith not evidence based, but most scientists believe in it as some people believe in the Loch Ness Monster.”

Richard Smith, Former editor of The British Medical Journal

“Models are never validated by consensus, but by facts satisfying predictions.”

FOUNDERS

GREG
GLASSMAN

FOUNDER

Greg Glassman founded CrossFit, a fitness revolution. Under Glassman’s leadership there were around 4 million CrossFitters, 300,000 CrossFit coaches and 15,000 physical locations, known as affiliates, where his prescribed methodology: constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity, were practiced daily. CrossFit became known as the solution to the world’s greatest problem, chronic illness.

In 2002, he became the first person in exercise physiology to apply a scientific definition to the word fitness. As the son of an aerospace engineer, Glassman learned the principles of science at a young age. Through observations, experimentation, testing, and retesting, Glassman created a program that brought unprecedented results to his clients. He shared his methodology with the world through The CrossFit Journal and in-person seminars.

Harvard Business School proclaimed that CrossFit was the world’s fastest growing business. The business, which challenged conventional business models and financially upset the health and wellness industry, brought plenty of negative attention to Glassman and CrossFit. The company’s low carbohydrate nutrition prescription threatened the sugar industry and led to a series of lawsuits after a peer-reviewed journal falsified data claiming Glassman’s methodology caused injuries. A federal judge called it the biggest case of scientific misconduct and fraud she’d seen in all her years on the bench. After this experience Glassman developed a deep interest in the corruption of modern science for private interests.

He launched CrossFit Health which mobilized 20,000 doctors who knew from their experiences with CrossFit that Glassman’s methodology prevented and cured chronic diseases. Glassman networked the doctors, exposed them to researchers in a variety of fields and encouraged them to work together and further support efforts to expose the problems in medicine and work together on preventative measures.

In 2020, Greg sold CrossFit and focused his attention on the broader issues in modern science. He’d learned from his experience in fitness that areas of study without definitions, without ways of measuring and replicating results are ripe for corruption and manipulation. The Broken Science Initiative, aims to expose and equip anyone interested with the tools to protect themself from the ills of modern medicine and broken science at-large.

EMILY
KAPLAN

FOUNDER

Emily Kaplan is an expert in strategy and communication. As the CEO and Co-founder of The Broken Science Initiative, she is building a platform to educate people on the systemic failings in science, education and health while offering an alternative approach based in probability theory.
