METFIX · BIOLOGY-BASED PERFORMANCE TRAINING
FOR ALL FIRST RESPONDERS
One Course. Built for the People Who Run Toward Danger.
Different uniforms. The same biological demands. Shift work, cortisol load, sleep disruption, and a food environment nobody optimized for your job. Fit for Duty was built with every first responder profession in mind, grounded in peer-reviewed research and firsthand experience.
Some things are out of your control. Your metabolism is not one of them. This course gives you the tools to take it back.

THE PROBLEM
Your Biology Is Working Against You
The job was designed around the mission. Nobody designed it around your metabolism. Here is what that costs you.
Shift Work and Your Circadian Rhythm
Whether you are a patrol officer, a firefighter, an ER nurse, or a federal air marshal, shift work disrupts your cortisol rhythm. Chronic circadian disruption drives insulin resistance and cardiovascular strain. The MetFix protocols address this directly.
Cortisol Is the Mechanism
The alarm. The call. The code. The threat. Every activation triggers a cortisol response. Understanding how that accumulates over a career, and what to do about it, is the foundation of this course.
Your Food Environment Can Work for You
Firehouse kitchens, drive-throughs, airport terminals, hospital vending machines. Every first responder operates in a challenging nutrition environment. The MetFix field protocol gives you a practical system for any of them.
Sleep Deprivation Is Structural and Addressable
Your schedule makes adequate sleep structurally difficult. The MetFix sleep protocols were built for people who cannot control when they sleep, only how they protect the sleep they get.
Mental Health Has a Biological Root
Across every first responder profession, the mental health challenges are rooted in cortisol. Occupational PTSD, burnout, and hypervigilance are predictable biological outcomes of your work. They are also addressable.
Built Specifically for First Responders
Generic wellness programs were not designed for people who work nights, respond to trauma, and operate in environments that challenge metabolic health. Fit for Duty was built from the ground up for your career.
THE METFIX APPROACH
Mind. Metabolism. Mission.
MetFix (Metabolic Fix) is built on one principle: understanding your metabolism is the most powerful tool you have for long-term health. This course applies the MetFix framework to the specific biological threats of your work.
Cortisol load, HPA axis dysregulation, occupational PTSD, and the biology of burnout. Mental health is not a character issue. It is a hormonal one.
The MetFlex Model, insulin resistance, mitochondrial function, and metabolic flexibility. The foundation of energy, body composition, and disease prevention.
Shift work, circadian disruption, the go-bag protocol, and field-ready implementation. Your career is the mission. Your health is what sustains it.

COURSE CURRICULUM
11 Modules · 10+ Contact Hours
From the biology of why you are getting sick to the field-ready protocols that fix it. Built for the real world: night shifts, hotel rooms, convenience stores, and the field.
Why Are We Here?
The documented health crisis and the cortisol-insulin cascade that is driving it.
The Five Factors That Will Take You Out
Metabolic syndrome, sleep deprivation, mental health, alcohol, and chronic inflammation.
The Broken Science
How 50 years of flawed nutritional guidance failed first responders. What the evidence actually says.
The MetFix Framework
Cortisol, insulin, mitochondria, ghrelin, leptin. The biology you need to understand your body.
Practical Fixes
Nutrition protocol, seed oil elimination, MetFix functional fitness, weighted walks, and the three sleep protocols.
Same Job, Different Outcomes
Four case studies: patrol officer, firefighter, ER nurse, federal air marshal.
Field Implementation
Go-bag protocol, hotel room survival, convenience store guide, metabolic testing.
Behavior Change
Identity, environment design, the crew effect, and your 30-day action plan.
Hormones & Performance
Testosterone, cortisol, thyroid, and the hormonal cascade that determines your energy and body composition.
Applied Nutrition Lab
Practical meal construction, macros for shift workers, and metabolic flexibility protocols.
Department Implementation
How to bring MetFix to your agency, crew, or department. Grant documentation support included.
FUNDING & COMPLIANCE
Your Department Might Pay for This
This course is structured to support approval and funding across common federal and professional pathways. Many agencies cover workforce health and resilience training at little or no out-of-pocket cost to the individual.
Wellness and fitness activities are explicitly eligible. FY2024 appropriation: $291.6 million. Fire departments can fund this at zero out-of-pocket cost.
Law enforcement agencies can apply for grants ranging from $100K to $500K. Aligns with LEMHWA program goals for officer mental health and wellness.
Meets IADLEST National Certification Program requirements for POST credit recognition across participating states. Counts toward continuing education.
Structured for ANCC-accredited provider co-sponsorship, enabling CNE credit for ER nurses and nursing staff.
Designed for ACCME-accredited provider partnership to offer Continuing Medical Education credit for emergency physicians.
Supports SAM.gov vendor registration for federal agency procurement including DHS and TSA. Agency licensing with admin dashboard.
