For the wall balls, use a heavier ball than you’ve used in the past (e.g. 30-lb instead of 20-lb), or use your regular ball but toss it a foot higher (11-ft instead of 10-ft).

The pull-ups are strict.

Preparation

Prepare the Beef Burgers: In a bowl, mix the ground beef (8 oz) with smoked paprika (1 tsp), garlic powder (½ tsp), onion powder (½ tsp), ground cumin (½ tsp), chili powder (¼ tsp), sea salt (½ tsp), and black pepper (¼ tsp). Form into two thick patties. Melt the butter (1 Tbsp) in a skillet over medium-high heat.Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and rest for 2–3 minutes.

Prepare the Garlic Aioli Slaw: In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage (1½ cups) and shredded carrot (¼ cup). In a small bowl, whisk together avocado oil mayonnaise (2 Tbsp), olive oil (1 Tbsp), minced garlic (1 clove), apple cider vinegar (1 tsp), Dijon mustard (½ tsp), sea salt (¼ tsp), and black pepper (¼ tsp) until creamy. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss well to coat and chill until ready to serve.

Assemble the Bowl: Spoon a generous portion of garlic aioli slaw into a bowl. Top with the BBQ-spiced beef burger. Drizzle with olive oil (1 Tbsp) and garnish with chopped parsley (1 Tbsp), if desired.

This 2024 Science study used the end of British sugar rationing in 1953 as a natural experiment to examine the long-term effects of sugar exposure early in life. During rationing, sugar intake was roughly consistent with current dietary guidelines; after restrictions ended, consumption nearly doubled while intake of protein, fat, fruits, and vegetables changed relatively little. Researchers compared more than 60,000 people who experienced different amounts of rationing from conception through their first two years of life.

Those exposed to sugar rationing throughout pregnancy and into early childhood had about a 35% lower risk of type 2 diabetes and 20% lower risk of hypertension, with diagnoses delayed by roughly four and two years, respectively. Even exposure during pregnancy alone was protective, but the benefits grew substantially when lower sugar intake continued after birth, particularly beyond six months when solid foods are typically introduced. The findings suggest that sugar exposure during a relatively short window early in life may influence metabolic health decades later.
