Where’s the Controversy? The Science of Optimum Health is largely Settled

In this webinar for the Broken Science Initiative Medical Society, Ivor Cummins presents a comprehensive overview of the science surrounding optimal health. He argues that the true root causes of modern chronic diseases—such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity—are not high cholesterol or saturated fat, but rather insulin resistance and poor metabolic health driven by high-carbohydrate, ultra-processed diets. Drawing from his own health transformation and extensive analysis of decades of medical literature, Cummins critiques mainstream medical thinking and emphasizes the importance of focusing on blood insulin levels, triglyceride/HDL ratios, GGGT, and visceral fat as more accurate indicators of health than traditional cholesterol metrics. He also strongly advocates for low-carb or ketogenic diets as safe, effective strategies for reversing metabolic dysfunction and improving overall health.

Throughout the presentation, Cummins debunks popular myths like the calorie-in/calorie-out model and the supposed dangers of low-carb diets, pointing instead to studies and clinical outcomes showing the benefits of carbohydrate restriction, intermittent fasting, and ancestral eating patterns. He outlines practical steps for improving health, including eliminating what he calls the “Devil’s Triad” (sugar, refined grains, and seed oils), prioritizing real food, using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) for personalized insight, and incorporating resistance training. The webinar emphasizes the need for a paradigm shift in how chronic disease is understood and addressed, with a call to action for individuals to take charge of their metabolic health through education and self-monitoring.

Ivor Cummins is a biomedical engineer, researcher, and author focused on uncovering the root causes of chronic diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes.
